Book Review: The Cheat Sheet

When I went to Target, The Cheat Sheet just jumped into my cart! I readWhen in Rome and Practice Makes Perfect over the summer, and I am now officially a fan of Sarah Adams. (You can see my thoughts on the When in Rome series here). So, when I saw this one in the store I went ahead and grabbed it. Read on for my synopsis and thoughts on the novel.

Synopsis

Bree and Nathan have been friends since high school. After loosing touch during college, the two reconnect when they both move to LA after they graduate. Bree runs a dance studio, Nathan is a professional football player for the Los Angeles Sharks, and both are secretly in love with each other. When a video of Bree proclaiming feelings for Nathan goes viral, Nathan’s agent encourages them to fake date and to do a commercial together. The two agree, and Nathan sets out to get himself out of the friend zone, while Bree is trying to shield herself from hoping that anything between them is more than an act.

Details/Review

  • Ok, so the number one thing you need to know going into this book is that is it majorly cheesy. I enjoyed the chemistry enough between Bree & Nathan to push past that, but man, just brace yourself.
  • This one felt a little unpolished, had way too many all caps declarations, and the pacing felt a bit off. At the end of the book, I came to find out that The Cheat Sheet was self-published. I can see a vast difference between this one and the When in Rome books.
  • I liked the depiction of mental health in this book as well as the healthy depiction of masculinity & a man who appreciates romance.
  • Read if you like friends-to-lovers, dual POV, fake dating, and closed-door romance.
  • Overall this book was cute, but I don’t know if I’d recommend it when there are SO many amazing romance books out there.
